OUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS DAY STARTERS

Posh Prawn Cocktail with Yorkshire Lemon Mayonnaise

The festive season is all about creating those memorable moments with loved ones, and for us Christmas feels extra special when we sit around the table to tuck into a feast that we’ve waited for for weeks!

Whether you're hosting a grand supper or an a more intimate gathering, the first course sets the tone. Christmas starters offer endless opportunities to surprise and delight your guests. And in this blog, we'll share some of our most popular appetisers that will add a touch of elegance and excitement to your Christmas dinner spread. Get ready to impress your family and friends with a delicious and fuss-free starter that makes the most of Yorkshire produce. Take your pick!

Posh Prawn Cocktail with Yorkshire Lemon Mayonnaise

This is a much-loved retro pub favourite! Created by Yorkshire chef Steph Moon, as part of our Chefs’ Collection and using our moreish Yorkshire Mayonnaise with Lemon, it’s certainly got finesse, but ever so simple to put together. Even the parmesan wafers were effortless to make.

No drama with this starter, except for the wows of appreciation you’ll get from your guests!

Smoked Duck, Apple & Horseradish Pots

Layer up your flavours and serve this impressive starter with the crisp sourdough toasts for your guests on Christmas Day.

It’s our Oak Smoked Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil and Oak Smoked Yorkshire Mayonnaise that elevate this dish. Justin from Staal Smokehouse expertly smokes our Oil to a secret recipe, and those flavours combine so well with the duck he cold smokes, and then hot smokes to truly intensify the flavour. His Twice-Smoked Duck is the only duck we’d recommend for this recipe.

Smoked Duck, Apple & Horseradish Pots

Seared Scallops with Marinated Wensleydale

The combination of delicious, fresh king scallops with the crumbly texture and full-on flavour of the award- winning Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese is unbeatable. We love the layers of chilli and salty olive flavours this recipe brings too.

Here at Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, we do like to keep our recipes simple, and with this dish you can get ahead a few days before to marinade cheese to absorb the flavours from the herb dressing made with our Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil. Our recipe shares a link to a video to watch this simple starter being prepared – it takes minutes.

Give this a try on Christmas Day, for a starter that will be remembered! Expect your guests to ask for the recipe!
